New York: Anson D. F. Randolf & Company, 1870. Good Condition. 365 pages. Green cover with light soiling and some rubbing. Corners moderately bumped. Gilt title on spine intact and legible. Gift inscription on a blank front page. Pages and text clean and unmarked with light smudges and age toning, and some edge spotting. A scarce book with little information available about it. A review of The Divine Human appeared in the New Englander and Yale review: Volume 28, Issue 109 (October 1869). This review says in part: a spirited protest against overstrained and unwarranted conceptions of Inspiration and Atonement. It was written by a layman who had struggled for a long time with difficulties and doubts, and has awakened to the discovery that certain representations of these doctrines ate warranted neither by Reason nor the Scriptures . We cannot always agree with the opinions he expresses but the book is well worth the reading, especially by some of the clergy.. Hard Cover. Good.
